Ingredients and preparation

Paint Wild watercolours are made from a combination of high quality, artist-grade pigment and binder. Our binder is made from scratch in-house and contains gum arabic (tree sap from the acacia tree), 100% organic pure Australian honey, vegetable-based glycerine, clove oil and distilled water. Amounts of pigment:binder vary depending on the nature of each pigment, with a minimum of 50% pigment used in all batches, and no unnecessary filler ingredients. This means more bang for your buck, and offensively pigmented watercolours that will last you a very long time.

Each batch of watercolour is made by hand by mixing pigment with our homemade binder, and mulling by hand. Pans are made layer by layer, pouring up to 4-5 times to fill the pan to the absolute brim. The curing process for each layer can take several days, meaning each pan can take between 1-2 weeks to complete!

Each pigment behaves differently and has a slightly adjusted binder solution to suit. Sometimes this means that the finished surfaces of each are different. Some may be slightly tacky, others may crack a little - all of this is completely normal and doesn't affect the quality or outcome of your paintings.

Our watercolours are available in three formats: sample sized mini-pans, the standard half-pans, and some colours are available in full-pans. Full-pans and half-pans come with a magnetised base, individual colour label on the pan, wrapped in foil with a label. Sample sized mini-pans are not sold individually, and come attached to a backing card with no magnet or individual labelling due to their small size. Full and half-pans purchased in a set from Pre-Made Palette Sets will come with a free Small sized tin, otherwise tins can be purchased separately.
